GovSat-1 was successfully launched into space on Jan 31, 2018 on board a flight-proven SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at 04:25pm EST.

GovSat announced the signature of a long-term commercial SATCOM contract to support the operational phase of NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS).

GovSat appointed Patrick Biewer as CEO, strengthening its leadership team with the addition of a Chief Technical Officer and Chief Commercial Officer.

GovSat ordered its satellite from Orbital ATK and secured a launch agreement with SpaceX using the Falcon 9 rocket.

SES and the Luxembourg Government established GovSat, launching a dedicated satellite operator to deliver secure governmental communications.

Patrick Biewer is the CEO of GovSat, overseeing all business activities and leading relationships with key international institutions including the EU, UN, and NATO.
He has held multiple executive roles at SES since 1993, including Managing Director of SES Broadband Services. A Luxembourg national, Patrick holds a Master’s in Telecommunications from the Université de Nancy and an MBA from the Open University.

Josef joined GovSat as Technical Director in April 2022. Josef studied Electronic Engineering in Munich and spent 12 years in the German Air Force, taking on different technical roles. He worked on several airborne projects and IT systems throughout his active duty time.
Josef then spent 6 years in the commercial aerospace industry in Luxembourg, working for the main commercial airline, Luxair, before returning to the defence sector at the NATO Support and Procurement Agency in the AWACS program.
